The Burrial of Heraclius
Heraclius was buried in the most prestigious location in the Byzantine world: The Church of the Holy Apostles in Constantinople. At the time, the Church was the second most important one after the Hagia Sophia. It served as the imperial mausoleum where almost all Roman/ Byzantine emperors were laid to rest, starting with Constantine the Great.
There are four Imperial sarcophagi (a stone coffin, adorned with sculpture or inscriptions) -called larnax in Greek -in front of the Archaeological Museum in Istanbul. They came from the Church of the Holy Apostles.
