Prophet Muhammad remained in Makkah for thirteen years, calling first his inner circle and then the public to the worship of the One Creator and the abolition of idolatry.
It was during this period of intense persecution that a specific chapter of the Quran was revealed: Surat Al-Room (The Romans). At a time when the Byzantine Empire seemed on the verge of total collapse, these verses offered a startling prophecy: despite their current defeat, the Romans would emerge victorious over the Persians within a few years.
In the name of Allah,
the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful. The Romans have been defeated in the nearest
(lowest) land. But they, after their defeat, will
overcome (be victorious) within a few years.
To Allah belongs the command before and after.
And that day, the believers will rejoice in the victory
of Allah. He Gives victory to whom He Wills, and He
is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.
